My work is a melding of contemporary Asian pop-culture, political images and current events, and Buddhist philosophy and iconography.  My paintings traverse this vast terrain in two ways.  First, I draw upon the language of anime, cartoons, and incorporate computer and digital era aesthetics to create natural landscapes depicted in pop colors and populated by robotic forms.  Second, I use an expressionistic, process-based method leaning more towards the abstract.  My paintings work with the tensions between the contemporary and the expressionistic, the pop-cultural and the abstract, to explore themes such as simulation, impermanence, technological aggression, masculinity, war and emptiness.
